Prop 8 Wins
Democrats won overall yesterday, but Homosexuals
lost. Republican lost over all but Prop 8 is a huge
victory for conservatives.
Prop 8 was the biggest ticket
on the ballot yesterday, after the presidential election.
More the 76 million was spent by the groups for and against
this proposition. It was a huge turn out. In fact,
one of the best turn outs the state has ever had. Gay
couples were upset. They thought that the state had made
some real headway with gay rights. But this is a major
set back. Especially in a state that is so liberal.
This should have been one of their strongest front, yet they
lost. What does this mean for other states? Will
Massachusetts follow the same path? Will the supreme
court step in? One thing is for certain, while this
battle was lost for the gay couples, the war is far from
over.
Conservatives on the other had, may have
one this ticket item, but overall they suffered a huge blow
yesterday. With Obama in office they will take a few
steps back from reversing the standing abortion laws.
Plus, Obama will make efforts to increase taxes for
corporations and individual he deems too wealthy. His
current mark for that group is individuals that make over
250k. But will his sake down work? Will his
redistribution of wealth help the small people or ultimately
hurt them? Many corporations already look to avoid taxes
and government intervention by moving projects overseas.
If the government increases their grip, then more will slip
through their fingers and out of the country.
So both sides have some thing to cheer
for and something to dread. Hopefully America will still
stand strong.
